Smoked Turkey Drums with Apple Ginger BBQ Sauce

Ingredients:
2 lbs Butterball Turkey Drums

1 tsp ginger

1 tsp paprika

1/2 tsp onion powder

1/2 tsp garlic powder

1 Tbsp brown sugar

1 tsp salt

1 tsp black pepper

Sauce:
3 Tbsp olive oil

1/2 onion, diced

3 cloves garlic, finely minced

2 Tbsp fresh ginger, finely minced

1 cup ketchup

1/2 cup apple cider vinegar

1/3 cup brown sugar

1/3 cup unsweetened applesauce

1/4 cup molasses

1/2 tsp salt

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, combine the ginger, paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, brown sugar, salt and black pepper. Add the Butterball Turkey Drums and rub all over to coat.
  2. Load your Ninja Woodfire Grill & Smoker with your pellets of choice. Then, add the dry rubbed turkey drums and close the smoker. Set your Ninja to “Smoker” at 250 degrees for 1 hour and 45 minutes, then turn on.
  3. While the turkey smokes, make the sauce. In a saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium low, then add the onions, garlic, and ginger. Sweat for 8-9 minutes, then add all of the remaining ingredients. Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce to a low simmer. Cook for 35-45 minutes, or until thickened, then remove and set aside.
  4. When the turkey drums are done and have reached an internal temperature of 180˚F/82˚C, remove and use a pastry brush to spread on some of the sauce. Serve right away with some extra sauce on the side and enjoy!
